Career Resources
Predicting some of the questions will make you feel more confident entering an interview.
There is no harm in your testing yourself and rehearsing what you might say.
Employer Questions:
Why did you apply to us & why you want to work for our company?
(Demonstrate that you have been reading relevant company literature e.g. case studies, annual report, website and prove this by dropping in some key facts and figures about the organization’s strengths. Match your skills and interests to what they do best)
Questions about you:
Why should we select you and what will you bring to the job?
(Be creative and while answering describe what you can offer that the other candidates cannot. Highlight your top three strengths, which relate to the job description and give a short, concise example of each).
Competency Questions:
Tell us about a time when you solved a problem and a time when you worked efficiently as part of a team..
(Usually the panel interview may have a grid with all 6-10 competencies required listed and those are usually found on the job description, so you need concrete evidence of displaying each.)
Questions about Your Qualifications :
How did you come to choose your degree/discipline? What will you bring from your studies to this job?
(Such questions are aimed at testing your critical thinking and decision making skills.Be ready for explaining the rationale for having made certain choices in your life. Remember to be positive and to pinpoint what you have learnt along the way.)
Career Questions:
What attracted you to this industry/sector?
Where do you see yourself in 5/10 years time?
What do you look for in a job?
Tell me about your career aspirations..
What have your learnt from your work experience?
( Your answers should show some ambition in the context of the job and the company. Employers want to see some long term dividend if they are to invest in you and in your training. Be positive and ensure that you take this opportunity to emphasise how well you match the needs of your potential employer within this career).
Personality Questions :
What are your strengths/weaknesses?
How would you describe yourself?
What part do you usually play in a team?
Can you deal with difficult people? Give me an example.
(When talking about weaknesses, only mention those that aren’t crucial to the role and that you are currently working on improving. Offer practical solutions for development. When talking about teamwork, show that you know what roles every team needs, then give evidence that you have done them.)
